On April 24, 2023, at approximately 12:23 PM, Brownsburg Officers responded to a call for service to the 1500 block of Midnight Pass in Summer Ridge in reference to a person stabbed. Upon arrival, Officers found the victim, Susan Early, 59 years of age, lying on the ground in her front yard being tended to by neighbors. Ms. Early appeared to have suffered from multiple stab wounds and still had a large kitchen knife protruding from her head.

Early was alert and conscious and was able to advise Officers that her son, Kyle A. Braun, 30 years of age, had attacked and beaten her in kitchen of her home. Neighbors on scene were able to advise Officers that Braun had exited the residence on foot and then provided a direction of travel.

After a brief search of the area, Brownsburg Officers were able to locate and apprehend Braun in the neighborhood without incident.

Early was transported to Eskanazi Hospital where she was said to be in Critical condition prior to emergent surgery. Braun was treated at a local hospital for superficial wounds to his hand and then released.

Ultimately, Braun was transported to the Hendricks County Jail and booked in on charges of Attempted Murder and (2) counts of Battery By Bodily Waste on an Officer for spitting on officers at the time of arrest. Braun has no bond.

BPD also noted Braun is wanted in Ohio.  There Braun left a mental health facility where he was being monitored by parole officers.  Braun reportedly cut off the GPS monitoring device and was last seen by Ohio officials on March 23.

All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
