Summary: Wife Killed Before Officers Fatally Shot Armed Husband in Hendricks County Domestic Violence Incident.

DANVILLE, Ind.
— Indiana State Police have identified the two people killed during an officer-involved shooting investigation in Hendricks County as 51-year-old Brian Branagin and 52-year-old Laura Branagin, a married couple from Danville. Laura ‘Ellie’ Branagin  is a nurse practitioner and the co-owner of Total Body Wellness Brownsburg.

According to investigators, Hendricks County deputies were called to a home on Edgewood Drive around 1 p.m. Monday following reports of a domestic disturbance. Police say Brian Branagin repeatedly exited and reentered the residence while armed with a rifle as deputies and assisting officers attempted to negotiate with him and ordered him to drop the weapon.

Investigators say the situation escalated when Branagin allegedly pointed the rifle toward responding officers, prompting law enforcement to open fire. Officers immediately rendered first aid at the scene.

While searching the property, officers later discovered Laura Branagin deceased in a grassy area outside the home. Investigators said she suffered traumatic injuries. Authorities also located personal belongings burning on the property, though investigators have not yet determined their significance.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The deputies and officers involved have been placed on administrative duty in accordance with department policy. Indiana State Police continue to investigate the shooting, and the findings will be forwarded to the Hendricks County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Officials are urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help before situations escalate into tragedy.
