Missing Danville Man Found – Silver Alert Cancelled

Charles Adkins – FOUND SAFE

2022 09 07 12:15pm Hendricks County – 

Public safety personnel cancelled the Silver Alert issued September 5th, for Charles “Larry” Adkins. 

Charles Larry Adkins was located approximately one mile south of his home in a corn field. Mr. Adkins was walking when he was located. He was not reportedly injured; however, he was transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

Through the use of drones, helicopters, Side-by-side UTV’s and horseback from surrounding agencies and citizen volunteers, this was the happy conclusion we had hoped for. The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who helped with the search; the several dozen community volunteers, Danville Police Department, Danville Fire Department, Brownsburg Police Department, Brownsburg Fire Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Lizton Fire Department, Pittsboro Fire Department, STAT Flight, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Plainfield Fire Department, Indiana Task Force One and the Indiana State Police.

The Danville Fire Department issued the following statement at 12:15 pm today (09/07)
“Mr. Adkins has been located and transported in stable condition to a hospital for evaluation. We want to thank all of the public safety organizations in Hendricks County that assisted in the search.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped in the search, we couldn’t have done it without you!!”

Area residents responded in large numbers to volunteer for the search of Charles Adkins. Public safety teams worked throughout the night using (09/06) utilizing 4 drones and used two helicopters all with infrared cameras. 

According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Adkins, 69, was reported missing after last being seen about 7:30 p.m. September 5th.  A statewide Silver Alert was declared about 11:30 p.m. 

He was last seen September 5th leaving his home in the 1100 block of East County Road 350 North, about a mile south of the unincorporated community of Maplewood, on foot about 7:15 p.m.  

 


Due to recent incidents within the past week first responders have issued a press release regarding the availability of a Hendricks county program known as Project Lifesaver Hendricks County.   

Project Lifesaver facilitates locative technology to help those with a cognitive disorder such as Autism or Dementia who have a tendency to wander from their caregivers. Not everybody who is diagnosed with Autism or Dementia has a tendency to wander, however for those who do, this program can make a difference!

This program is ran by the Washington Township / Avon Fire Department, and the Avon Police Department is their designated law enforcement liaison. This program is 100% free for Hendricks County residents who meet the criteria found on the links below:
