The sun rose this morning to hundreds of people lined up for free tee-shirts and coffee at today’s grand opening of WAWA first location in Hendricks county and first of several in the Brownsburg area.
The door opening count down ended and customers rushed in to be the first to experience WAWA’s famous always fresh coffee, hoagie’s, breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings. Or purchase other convenience store items which are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Outside the grand opening celebration continued comments from Wawa’s “Parade of Ages” showcasing milestones over the company’s 200 year history.
Joe Collins WAWA’s Director of Store Operations noted this store opening marked their expansion into the Midwest, Indiana and their newest store in Brownsburg. WAWA projects to have eight stores open by the end of 2025. WAWA projects opening 8 – 12 stores per year, reaching 60 in Indiana over the next six years. Joe later expressed his pride that employment offered the possibility of employee ownership.
Next a friendly “Hoagies for Heros” hoagie-building competition between the Brownsburg Police and Brownsburg Fire Territory Firemen.
The competition was easily won by the BFT firemen, 24 to 21 sandwiches.
The grand opening celebration drew to a close with the traditional ribbon cutting.
Monica from WAWA Public relations introduced us to Brownsburg resident Owen, who waited since 3am to be the store’s first customer.
Members of the community large and small, two or four legged agreed this was a grand opening to remember.
