Brownsburg – At approximately 12:45pm today Plainfield Dispatch (911) received a report of construction materials on fire at a Scannell Properties spec warehouse near the intersection of Connector Road and Ronald Reagan Parkway. Brownsburg units arrived immediately, later equipment from Pittsboro, Avon, Wayne Township, and the Airport were dispatched to the scene.
Battling the fire was difficult in that construction materials were burning beneath a building under construction. Having no exterior or interior walls provided a constant supply of oxygen to the fire. In addition, no hydrants or retention ponds were available, the only water available was carried on the equipment to extinguish the blaze. The aforementioned fire departments were called in to assist as a result.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and all crews were wrapping up approximately 2 hours later. No employees or firefighters were injured as a result of the event.
At approximately 2:45pm, Brownsburg Fire Marshal Steve Jones determined the fire was accidently started by welders on the roof as embers landed on stacks of foam insulation inside the structure.
