January 7th 2024
At a Glance:
At a special board meeting held Dec. 26, the school board voted not to renew the school Superintendent’s employment contract. At that meeting, the board failed to provide the public any context for their actions. We suggest the public attend the Jan 8th school board meeting and demand an explanation of the actions they have taken to date.
The story continues:
The school board held another closed executive meeting Tuesday, Jan 2nd at 9:00am to discuss matters relating to their decision not to renew the School Superintendent’s contract.
The Brownsburg Sentinel has investigated the matter and to date, no justification for non-renewal of the contract has surfaced. By contract the school superintendent can be released for a variety of reasons; the board has not provided evidence to support any of the clauses.
The Superintendent has met and exceeded the defined minimum qualifications for the position. Details supporting this conclusion are noted below.
The Superintendent is not disabled nor been convicted of a federal or state crime. Nor has he submitted his resignation to the board. Details supporting this conclusion are noted below.
We suggest the public not speculate or jump to conclusions regarding the board actions.
Rather we suggest people attend the next school board meeting and demand answers and context into the school board’s actions.

Excerpts from the Superintendent’s
2015 Original Employment Contract
The Brownsburg Sentinel has collected the following information:
Reasons to change the contract or terminate the superintendent are clearly defined:
Failure to Meet Minimum Qualification Standards:
At any time the Superintendent no longer meets these minimum qualifications, this Contract shall terminate immediately without any due process or other pre-condition to cancellation. The superintendent job performance is reviewed annually, he has easily met and exceeded the minimum qualifications. A detailed job description is found here. The job evaluation score sheet is found here. The school board has not completed the superintendent’s 2022-2023 school year evaluation.
Cancellation for Other Reason(s)
(1.) The parties agree in a written agreement to cancel it.
(2.) The Superintendent is disabled within the terms of the long-term disability policy.
(3.) The Superintendent is convicted of a crime under state or federal law:
(4.) Incompetence pursuant to IC 20-28+7 5-1 (a)
(5.) Insubordination pursuant to IC 20-28-7.5-1 (e)
(6.) Neglect of Duty pursuant to IC 20-28-7.5-1 (e)
(7.) The Superintendent notifies the Board of his resignation in writing.
(8.) The Board shall provide the Superintendent with at least thirty (30) days written notice that it intends to cancel the contract.
It affords the Superintendent an opportunity for a conference with the Board in executive session. The purpose of a conference with the Board, if requested by the Superintendent, will be to provide the Superintendent an opportunity to present information and reasons why cancellation is unwarranted, arid an opportunity for the Board to reconsider whether or not the cancellation of this Contract is in the best interests of the School Corporation.
Following the conference, unless the Board has decided against cancellation of this Contract, the Board will give the Superintendent an opportunity to resign, The Superintendent will be granted a public hearing at a mutually agreed upon time, at his request, at least seven days prior to any official action taken by the Board regarding this contract, After giving the
Superintendent an opportunity to resign, the Board may cancel the Contract, with or without cause by an affirmative vote by a majority of members of the Board at a public meeting.
If the Superintendent submits a resignation, then the Board agrees to pay the Superintendent the full salary due under Paragraph 4(a) of the Contract until the expiration of the Contract, which includes any increase in the base salary.
Our Analysis:
The School Board Executive Meeting held at 5pm and the public meeting held at 6pm on Dec. 26th 2024, were held solely to satisfy section (5) Extension and Non-Renewal of the superintendent’s contract. This section required the school board notify the superintendent of non-renewal on or before January 2nd, 2024.
Given the information discovered by this publication, and information which has been made public as of this writing, we conclude the school board is executing section (8) of the superintendent’s employment contract.
We strongly urge the public attend the Jan 8th school board meeting and demand the board provide context for their actions; and the board provides context for their actions at the earliest possible date.
