Eric Halvorson Community Affairs Manager said “Brownsburg was chosen for this building: we are recognizing the pace of growth in Brownsburg and Hendricks county. Putting the store here, making it a bigger store with some of the features that aren’t yet available in a lot of other places is our acknowledgement of everything that is happening out here and our desire to be a part of it”.
Kroger opened a new store today- its first in Indiana since 2017- the first in the state to feature a cutting-edge design for Kroger buildings. This morning’s ribbon-cutting celebrated the completion of Kroger’s $24.8 million investment in Brownsburg.
“This new store achieves several things ,” said Colleen Juergensen, president of
Kroger Central Division. “It enables us to offer new services not available at our
current store, and it positions us better to serve the impressive growth of
Brownsburg and Hendricks County. We’re proud to deepen our commitment to
this community and our commitment to be full, fresh and friendly for everyone
who shops with us.”
While the new look is immediately evident outside, the store is also strikingly
different inside. Since the floorplan is nearly 30,000 feet larger than the store it
replaces, Brownsburg shoppers will discover new features in virtually every
department.
Among the additions include:
• Starbucks with seating inside, as well as outdoor seating for next summer
• Full-service grab-and-go meals with their own self-checkout lane
• Bakery featuring artisan breads and custom cakes
• Popcorn station
• Expanded “Murray’s” Cheese Department
• Wider aisles
• Drive-thru Pharmacy service (coming soon)
• Kroger Pickup
• Meat- and cheese-cutting room for party and catering needs
Juergensen said, “The changes made possible by this new store will add
enjoyment and convenience each time shoppers visit us. They’ll also make it
easier for everyone to enjoy the quality, selection and value our customers count
on from Kroger.”
The construction project supported the commitment to sustainability embodied in
Kroger’s Zero Hunger I Zero Waste plan. “Kroger engineers recycled or reused
more than 90 percent of the building that originally stood on the site,” said Diane
Hollibaugh, Kroger Regional Project Manager and leader of the Brownsburg
construction. “Our work, here, represents our determination to protect people and
our planet by minimizing the environmental impact of construction.”
To fight hunger in the area, Kroger donated $2500 to the Brownsburg Community
School Corporation Food and Clothing Pantry. The contribution, in the form of
Kroger gift cards, will help the pantry as it expands its service to more families in
Brownsburg and elsewhere in Hendricks County. Tracy Damone accepted the donation on behalf of BCSC.
Local shoppers will enter the building slowly as they stop to admire a brightly
colored mural commissioned for the new store. Bo Wachendorf, Art Manager for
The Kroger Co., says the corporate Art Program invites local artists “to lend their
talents in creating a piece that is unique and celebrates the spirit of the
community.” Here, the artist is Hoosier art teacher Lisa Sears, a former
Brownsburg resident who regularly visit her parents in town. “I want people to just
enjoy the vibrant colors,” she said, and think “I know that place.”
“We are so excited to welcome this new, beautiful Kroger store to Brownsburg,”
said Travis Tschaenn, town council President. “The mural is a wonderful and
much appreciated touch that highlights our community. We want to thank Kroger
for investing in Brownsburg and offering a very nice shopping experience for our
residents.”

Employment Opportunities — How to Apply
“Kroger is always on the look-out for candidates to fulfill their staffing needs. They make every attempt to meet the needs of the potential candidate.” said Regina Phillips Human Resources Leader for Kroger District 7. Brownsburg has gone from approximately 140 team members to approximately 240, 100 new staff members are a result of the larger store.
Regina suggested going to the company website https://www.thekrogerco.com/careers/, or walk into the store and ask to speak with Teresa McKinney Store Hiring Specialist, or a member of management to fill out an application. Regina said the Brownsburg store currently has approximately 15 openings.
