UPDATE March 09, 2020 3:00 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Avon Community School Corporation has decided to close all schools for two weeks<\/span> as a precaution after one student tested positive for COVID-19\/Coronavirus and more recently, one other student begun exhibiting symptoms.<\/p>\n

As a result of the above, all schools will remain closed until March 20. Avon’s scheduled 2020 spring break immediately follows. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Indiana State Department of Health urged students should stay home and isolate themselves. Indiana State Department of Health also recommends grandparents, those with compromised immune systems, or those with various respiratory illnesses not come visit or baby sit the children during this time. Those people who think they may be at risk, should contact their primary care physician before traveling to support a family member.<\/p>\n

Avon Community School Corporation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On Sunday, March 8th at 10:25 p.m<\/strong>. Avon Community School Corporation was notified by the Hendricks County Health Department that a student from Hickory Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19\/Coronavirus. The law directs us to keep student medical information confidential.<\/p>\n

The Health Department received the positive test result late Sunday evening and shared it with us immediately. Because this information just became available, we believe it is prudent to exercise our option to have an e-Learning day on Monday, March 9th for the entire school district.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Although it is not required, the State Health Commissioner and Hendricks County Health Department have recommended that Hickory Elementary School be closed for two weeks through Friday, March 20th.<\/span><\/strong> It is our intent to provide our Hickory students with ongoing learning opportunities, which may include e-learning and other experiences. Hickory students and staff will be able to return on Monday, April 6th, following Spring Break.<\/p>\n

Hendricks Regional Health has launched a dedicated 24\/7<\/strong> hotline, (317) 520-5500<\/strong>, that offers free Coronavirus (COVID-19) phone screenings.<\/span> The hotline was created to educate our community about Coronavirus and provide guidance on who should and should not be tested. Our goal is to help reduce unnecessary trips to ERs or Urgent Care facilities and decrease the potential for further spread. Healthcare professionals staffing the hotline will recommend the most appropriate next steps for your care. Individuals may also reach out to their provider\u2019s office if they have questions or concerns.<\/p>\n

We ask that our community members not panic at this time. It is important to remember that coronavirus will infect additional individuals in our community, but that the vast majority of these individuals will have mild symptoms and not require treatment or hospitalization. Hendricks Regional Health is and will continue to work with local and state health organizations to respond to this evolving public health situation. <\/p>\n
